Description

Much of South America’s culture is strongly rooted in tradition and heritage, and horses have played a significant role in that culture. The South American continent is home to beautiful and unique breeds. With this stamp series we wish to recognize and honor the rich cultural heritage of South America. new series of South American Horses stamps, which consists of some of the most known horses in Curaçao. These are: ‘Lusitano’ (70c), English thoroughbred (Cat.1), Friesian horse (Cat.2-left), Shire horse (Cat.2-right), Quarter horse (334c), ‘Andalusiër’ (478c), and the ‘Paso Fino’ (746c). Each of these breeds can be traced back to the horses first brought to the New World by Spanish explorers in the 16th century. Over time, each breed became distinct, with its own conformation and movement. Many of these breeds have been considered well-kept secrets in their home countries, but with the increasing interest in gaited horses and these horses’ athletic abilities and amiable temperaments, they’re not likely to remain so for long. The secret is out. The artist Ans Mezas designed for this series a lively, original, modern, full of emotions illustration of the horses in their own environment!
