Description

The Royal Dutch Navy is the naval force of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. During the 17th century, the navy of the Dutch Republic (1581–1795)
was one of the most powerful naval forces in the world and played an active role in the Anglo-Dutch Wars, the Franco-Dutch War, and wars against
Spain and several other European powers. The Royal Dutch Navy always travels in the Caribbean to maintain safety in the ocean and surroundings.
This is called the “stationship”, It’s always an Ocean Going Patrol Vessel like the P843 Zr.Ms. Groningen. The three main tasks of the Royal Dutch
Navy are to: 1. protect the integrity and interests of Curaçao, Aruba, Sint Maarten, and the BES-islands, 2. to promote and enforce the international
legal order and stability, but also support civil authorities. To commemorate the Royal Dutch navy, we’re releasing this stamp series which consists
of the following ships: Hr. MS van Amstel (F831), Hr. MS van Kingsbergen, Hr. Ms. Bloys van Treslong (F824), Hr. Ms Overijssel (D815), and the Zr.
Ms. Groningen (P843), Hr.Ms. Karel Doorman (R81), Zr.Ms. Evertsen (F805). All of these ships have a special connection in some way to Curaçao. For
example, during World War II, on April 19th, 1942, Van Kingsbergen searched for the German submarine U-130, which had bombarded Curaçao.
