Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi is known as Mahatma meaning ‘Great Soul’, (born October 2, 1869, Porbandar, India—died January 30, 1948, Delhi). lndian lawyer, politician, social activist, and writer who became the leader of the nationalist movement against the British rule of India, and for the rights of the Indian poor.

Who advocated for the civil rights of Indians. Gandhi studied law and organized boycotts against British institutions in peaceful forms of civil disobedience.

He was an astute political campaigner who fought for Indian independence from British rule His example of non-violent protest is still revered throughout the world today.
