Description
The series of six colorful bird stamps introduced in 2023 is continued in 2025 with six new native species. This new collection of stamps features the Chivi Vireo, Scarlet Ibis, Common Ground Dove, Osprey, Indigo Bunting, and the Southern Lapwing.
Birds with vivid, rich colors were selected to provide a striking contrast to the soft pastel background while also harmonizing with it. Shown in a variety of poses, they bring movement and energy to the composition, resulting in a lively and dynamic overall design. Each bird is depicted in a distinct pose, resulting in a dynamic overall composition. The birds are cropped to draw attention to their eyes, making them the focal point of the design, and giving the stamps a striking and intense expression.
The background features a stylized landscape composed of horizontal bands of color, highlighted by white lines that imply the horizon and evoke the natural elements of land, sea, and sky. The color palette is inspired by the pastel shades of Curaçao’s iconic architecture. An additional layer of abstract, white, transparent flowers and/or leaves are added between the bird layer and the background, creating visual depth and reinforcing the natural theme while enhancing the posture of each bird.
The top layer consists of typography. The words “Curaçao” and the denomination are set in bold, white uppercase fonts to counterbalance the detailed illustrations of the animals. The Dutch name is in the same typeface at a smaller scale, and in a deep red tone. The year is printed in dark blue or green, creating a strong contrast with the pastel background. Lastly, the Latin name of each of the species is rendered in a graceful, light white serif font, which provides an elegant contrast to the other typographic elements.
